Hi Stephanie- Just wanted to let you know Samson is doing great- he just celebrated his 9th bday and is living the good life. We still have our 16 yr.old Aussie and just adopted him a Westie friend named Winston. They are quite the pals and love to wrestle around and hunt lizards together. He' s just the best and such a sweet and lovable guy. Can't thank you enough for the bundle of joy we love so much! Take care, Jean K and Samson

Nice site, great job. I just stopped by to view the beautiful Cairns on you site. We currently own a male cairn (age 7) and a female westie (age 6), and previously owned a female cairn who died at age 13. These are the best dogs ever! I cannot imagine life without a cairn (or westie)!

I adopted Teddie and he was the love of my life. He was the most special dog. He passed away just after Thanksgiving after a struggle with pneumonia that started with strep throat. Our hearts are broken with his passing.

well, it's coming up on Max and my 3 year anniversary of joining forces. He is the sweetest, cutest little guy ever. He filled a huge void in my life/home after losing my Westie. Just love him to pieces and I really think he has grown quite fond of me also. we are very happy campers. Thank you for the good you do

We're hoping to adopt another rescue Cairn this fall and are so happy to have found this website. Our (2nd) Cairn, Rusty, will be 11 yrs old next month. We adopted him in Oregon when he was about a year old and he is such a joy. Our 1st Cairn, Dusty, was adopted at 4 months and lived to be 15 (and we still miss her). If you can deal with how stubborn a Cairn can be (which we deal with and laugh at), you will love a Cairn Terrier. They are the sweetest, most lovable companions who will keep you laughing. I'll be back in the fall : )

Hi Stephanie,
Happy New Year from Gabby!
We love our Gabby girl. She has captured our hearts and can't imagine our home without her.
She loves long walks and snuggle time. She loves to go in the car and golf cart.
Our friends and visitors say she is the best behaved fur person they have ever seen. That is after she completes her Zoomies!
Don't forget we are here, we would do anything for you!

It looks that my positive adoption experience comments went away when you accidentally wrote over the top of the guest book comments, so I am submitting again. To anyone who loves cairns and other little terriers, and is considering adopting from the Southwest Cairn Rescue, please do so! It is a wonderful organization that does what it says it does, and is very transparent and easy to work with. We adopted Kelly (a Westie, actually; I have had both Cairns & Westies before), and we couldn't be happier. We renamed him Rocky, and he is a SWEETIE!!! I am grateful for all that this organization does for these little guys!

Linda, It doesn't look like anyone replied to your posting. Birds get into my house here in Arizona from time to time, and I have just quickly closed my little dogs into another room when it happens, then open all of the doors wide until the bird figures out how to fly out. Yes, they were originally bred to catch small animals in "cairns", so naturally will go after them.

Today a sparrow got into my house. My 7-year old female killed it and ate it. Is this normal behavior? It was pretty upsetting to find out she did this.

My husband and I adopted a 9 year old Cairn Terrior, his name is MacDuff, last April from a no-kill shelter in Denver Colorado. We also have a 12 year old male Bichon Frise, who is spoiled rotten. We were a little nervous at first when reading the characteristics that a Cairn can have but we adopted him anyway. We are so glad that we did, he is a doll and the two dogs get along perfect, it was meant to be. The only problem we seem to be having is he can be a little aggressive on certain things, like drying him off with a towel or putting him in our bed before we get in the bed, especially with my husband. I have just ordered a training book (me or the dog) so hopefully this will give us some ideas on how to solve this problem. No matter what though he is with us to the end, we love him dearly.

We just wanted to let Linda (Snoopy's foster mom) that our Molly is doing wonderfully. She is such a big part of our family. I can't imagine our home without her. My husband has become totally enthralled with her. Our mature male Golden Retriever has grown to tolerate her and probably likes her more than he knows. We take lots of walks and Molly really likes to walk along the beach in the early mornings. SCR thanks for bringing such a cutie into our lives. Cheers, Mary

Loved the picture of Jake, he's a cutie. Wish we could have him, but have a Schnauzer and can't afford a divorce! Hope he finds a good home.
Keep up the great work.

We are the new proud parents of Snoopy (now her name is Molly). And we love her. She has adapted to our home and family very quickly and we love her. She has had so many walks and a few road trips already. What a pleasant experience this adoption has been. Thank you to SW Cairn Rescue and to Linda (Snoopy/Molly's foster mom).

I read your page about Cairn Terrier info and am a little perplexed. I have owned two Cairns, neither or which were aggressive or loud. In fact, one of the reasons I like Cairns so much is because of their sweet nature. If I read your page never having owned Cairns in the past, it would deter me from wanting one. Maybe both Cairns that I had were just "special" in their sweet nature...they were both females and I never had problems with them being excessively loud or intolerant of children.
